The MVP title is the highest recognition you can be given by Sitecore for your contribution to the community and the brand. It is a high honor that I have been awarded with the MVP in 2019. This is a summary of my journey as well as some basic ideas of how to get it.
Everything started with me participating in the Sitecore Hackathon organized by the community last year on February. You can find my experience is this post. However, I am not saying you should start with this necessarily, but it is a good way to obtain name recognition and experience with other developers around the globe.
Next, I started this blog by adding some posts about some issues I faced while working on some projects at work. This is my second recommendation to you. Start a blog if you don’t have one already and write about some possible solutions you find while working that you think is worth sharing. It doesn’t necessarily mean you will need to write every day or week, although it would be awesome. It is most about the value you can provide to the community.
My third recommendation is to get involved in the Sitecore Slack if you are not already. Just fill this form and wait to get the approval from one of the organizers. Now some tips for the Slack chat:
- Take a look at all channels the account has. I think it has one channel for every possible Sitecore topic related (TDS, questions, venting, general, SUGCON, etc)
- Please read the guidelines of the community. This basically means ask questions where it belongs. For example, ask any question you have inside the “sitecore-chat” channel, Sitecore user groups dates inside “sitecore-user-groups”, any WFFM question in “wffm-forms”, etc.
The last recommendation is to get involved in the Sitecore User Groups (SUG). If you are lucky to have one in your city, please get in contact with the community and assist to the meetings they have. This is a great way to know other people. However, if you don’t have the chance to go to a meeting in person, you have tons of other SUG across the world where you can pick from. Really just Google “Sitecore User Groups” and you will find lot of groups in different countries and cities.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or just want to chat. Good luck to all of you who are planning to apply for the MVP in the future. Let’s meet there!
